Blind Box
Material: Watercolor, Sketch paper, cardboard, acrylic, tape, tracing paper.
Size: 7*13*17 cm
This is an interactive installation. I used this device to share my personal experiences, describe how I met my classmate Joyce, and highlight the “active engagement” feature of this friendship, which is “Zoom in”. I use cardboard and sketch paper as the material of boxes and portraits to represent Joyce, and tape as the material of “chain” to represent the invisible connection between us and the unknown. There is a hole in the front and back of the box, audiences can drag and drop more pieces from the hole to form the complete image.
The original inspiration for this work came from the action of “zoom in“ when we take a photo. The prototype of this work comes from puzzles and raffle boxes.
-------------
I paint these symbolic characteristics of Joyce on tracing paperand cut them into pieces. Then, the audience can freely collage the pieces and they will be able to produce different results.
When we try to understand something else, we create a new individual.
